With the Spring and Summer arriving, Marinanow has found the most interesting events in and around Cagliari in May and June to provide you with a complete itinerary to add value to your Sardinian holiday.

2 May: Sardinia Half Triathlon

On Saturday 2nd May the city of Cagliari will be the setting for the first Sardinia Half Triathlon, a mid distance triathlon that will bring this discipline for the first time to Sardinia. The route will pass through the port as well as through the rest of Cagliari, in one of the most amazing landscapes of the Europe. The partecipants at the beginning swim for 2 Km in the warm water of the port, where the public can support while walking along the seafront; then they will cycle for 90 Km in the panoramic route into the heart of the city; and in the end will finish the race with a half marathon around 21 Km on foot along the seafront and the city whilst being cheered on by fans, the general public and the volunteers. The 26-27-28th May: Free diving with Pelizzari - Quartu S.Elena (CA)

Pelizzari

A mix of theoretical and practical lessons to give you an intensive training in freediving organised by BlueWorld Apnea School, with the presence of an expert in this field: the multi-time world free diving champion Umberto Pelizzari. The course, open to beginners and to those who practise free diving at a competitive level, costs 330 Euro and at the end you will be awarded with a participation certificate. 30 May – 5 June: XI Archeotour Sardegna: our history in the stones

The tour, organised by the Rotary Club Cagliari is now in its XI edition and will take you on a trip to visit a hidden part of Sardegna and see what has been carved from its rocks. The highlight of the trip is the guided visit to see the giants of Monte Prama, only recently put on display in the local museums. There will be many other interesting places to discover during the tour including visits to the nuraghi (ancient burial sites) and phoenician-punic archaelogical sites, exploring the caves of Is Zuddas and the tombs of Montessu, and many other sites that are important from an archeological and historical perspective for the Sardinian people. 30 May : Transardinia classic in mountain bike

A 7 stop mountain bike course that lasts 8 days and crosses the whole of Sardinia on its east coast, taking you through the wildest and most spectacular scenery that the island has to offer. The route is over 450 Km long and has over 10.000 metres climbs. It starts at Olbia and proceeds south all the way to Supramonte and before finishing in the gulf of Cagliari, where the participants can enjoy a restorative swim at the beach of Poetto. An adventure that allows the most passionate bikers to experience a unique event where they can immerse themselves in nature and a get away from the grind of everyday life. They can enjoy the breathtaking views and get to know people with whom they can share their passion. 30 May till 2 June: Girotonno - Carloforte

From 30th May to 2nd June, Carloforte opens its doors to the hugely anticipated Girotonno, the internationally famous annual event that gathers the biggest fans of tuna, stellar chefs and numerous journalists and experts in mediterranean cuisine. Four days in which visitors can discover the historic traditions of tuna fishing, even taking part in the ancient rite of the “mattanza” (slaughtering), where the bluefin tuna are fished according to the “di corsa” tradition. The main event of the show will be the World Tuna Cuisine Competition, an international gastronomic challenge that involves chefs from six nations creating tuna based dishes. As well as this, there will be other elite cooking events like the Girotonno Live Cooking, where stellar chefs cook their tuna based specialities. Apart from the culinary events, Girotonno Live will include numerous musical, artistic and theatrical shows, that transform the town into a worldstage that attracts over 200 000 tourists each year. 11- 14 June : Rally Italia Sardegna 2015

From 11th to 14th June the 11th edition of Rally Italia Sardegna is back, the unmissable event for all those lovers of Rallys and cars. The event involves all four of the historic provinces of the island as well as Olbia-Tempio: Cagliari hosts the start with the special first trials, Oristano and Sassari will see the first stages of the races on 12th June, Olbia-Tempio and Nuoro have the second day of racing on 13th June, and Sassari hosts the gran finale on Sunday 14 June, with the panorama of Alghero, and the Cala Flumini, one of the Power Stage’s most important and difficult courses in the World Rally Championships. The event is being organised by the Automobile Club d’Italia with the support of the Regione Sardegna and the Eventi Turismo Sardegna.
