Red Bull Full Foiling Generation

Are you between 16 and 20 years of age and think you area a talented sailor? Have you ever dreamt about competing in a real sailing contest? Do you want to try and win a national championship? Don’t miss the new revolutionary circuit of regattas organised for you by Red Bull.

A truly worldwide event, the Red Bull Full Foiling Generation, gives visibility to all youths passionate about sailing with seven races taking place throughout the world. The races start in April in Japan, and then continue in England, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Russia and France. The Italian leg will take place from 10th to 12th June at Malcesine, on the Lago di Garda (Verona), in collaboration with la Fraglia Vela Malcesine. The hopeful participants, after they sign up according to the following format, will be chosen by an expert jury made up of the Austrian Olympic champions Roman Hagara and Hans Peter Steinacher. During the selection process they will be tested on their physical capability, their technical capacity and their sporting results. There will be a maximum of 32 teams chosen, each of which will be made up of at least two youths between the ages of 16 and 20, that will race on board the innovative catamaran the Flying Phantom provided by the organisers.

Thanks to their lightness, their V shaped centreboard and T shaped rudder, that work with small wings, the Flying Phantom catamarans are able to “fly” above the surface of the water, giving the sensation of racing a full sized catamaran like those use by the America’s Cup. The boats are capable of reaching a maximum velocity of 35 knots even with a windspeed of only 7 knots. Among the other novelties there will also be the trial of a revolutionary new circuit of races with direct elimination that will leave the participants and spectators breathless. At the beginning of each day’s races there will be four teams on the starting line each one identifiable by a different colour: red, yellow, blue and grey. The first two teams will make it through to the second day, while the other two teams will have the possibility to be readmitted thanks to a repechage round. At the end of the competition the winner will be declared with the title of national champion, and will be invited to take part with the other national champions with the champions of other nations at the first world final of the Red Bull Full Foiling Generation in 2016.
